Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY)

Recently the Halifax Foundation for Northern Ireland matched a donation to CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young) through the Matched Giving Scheme.

The money was raised by Mrs Sharon Heggen, an employee of Halifax through carrying out a range of fundraisers including; gifts on Lady Captain’s Day, a charity golf competition and a charity bunker. Sharon is Lady Captain of Larne Golf Club and she decided to raise the money in memory of Stuart Ross (25) from Islandmagee who died suddenly while playing football for Islandmagee Football Club.

CRY supports young people diagnosed with potentially life-threatening cardiac conditions and offers bereavement support to families affected by young sudden cardiac death. CRY promotes and develops heart screening programmes and funds medical research. CRY publishes and distributes medical information written by leading cardiologists for the general public. They also fund fast track referral, screening and cardiac pathology services at leading UK hospitals.

The photograph above shows Sharon Heggen presenting the cheque to Stuart’s parents, David and Janet which will be sent to CRY. Sharon raised a total of £2,126.40 and this includes the Foundation’s £500 matched amount to support a very worthwhile charity.
